10 things you don’t know…

20/09/2010

...about ME!!!! I haven't done a post in some time, so I thought I'd start off by letting you know just a little bit more about me. Here goes...

1. I have a serious love for cows. I think I actually do a funky dance when I see one....or scream!

2. Rice is my favorite starch. If one could live on rice alone (without weight gain)...I definitely would.

3. If there is a piece of paper, I will draw on it. It's very hard not to. Newspapers, paper bags, post-its...you name it.

4. Dancehall Queen is my favorite movie ever. I can watch it over and over, and laugh like it was the first time seeing it.

5. I played the Alto-Recorder in high school.

6. I'm afraid of sleeping by a window.

7. I can't sleep without a comforter. Even when it's hot...I'll burn up just because I need it on me.

8. I have knock-knees...which I've worked very hard at camouflaging over the years. Sometimes that doesn't work though.

9. My minor in college was Fashion. After one class I switched to Fibers.

10. My phone is always on vibrate...I'm not a ringtone kinda gal.

Old folk?

7/05/2010

I'm not a happy camper! So a few weeks ago, while walking on the mean streets of NY...I tried to read a sign about half a block away...and I couldn't! All the type was blurry. Yes I know this is half a block away which may explain it but I can usually see things like this. I was so frustrated that as the next few weeks passed by, I made myself look at every sign far away on purpose, but to my surprise again.... I really couldn't read some of them! I'm hoping this is just a cause of my allergies and once the darn pollen disappears, my 20/20 vision will be back to normal. Someone even tested me when we had a convo about good vision....and to prove that my sight was as good as his...I worked real hard to read some small type on this sign by a park! Ugh!! So I have to go get my eyes tested...wompdidiwomp! I remember wanting glasses so badly in high school cause I thought it was cool...and it's surprising that now...I'm kinda over the whole  idea!

Anyway, if I need a pair of spectacles (I'm hoping I don't)...these are the few that I would choose to cover these eyes! I got excited at one point looking at all these glasses because, when I clicked on the black and blue DKNY pair...I was shown the same style but with aqua on it!!! I would be happy to wear those just because of the color...you know how I do! And the pale yellow Persol ones really appealed to me...I usually go for dark frames but I could rock these and the light color RayBan pair as well...no doubt! If my 20/20 vision really is going...I think I'm going to go for a light color frame! Sooo...I guess the next step is to get these eyes checked! Sigh!

the soundtrack to my life

5/05/2010

So I'm not a big fan of Kid Cudi, (we all know Drake has my heart), but some of his recently released songs have been quite catchy...and I find my Cudi music list growing on the pod. Anyway, he has a song called "soundtrack to my life" and while I listened to it,  I thought to myself....how cool would it be to have a soundtrack to life??? So of course I created one for myself, and decided to share it (the double disc version). I should really make a cd and give them as gifts for Christmas this year....hmmmm...my friends may not be amused about that one! Womp! Nerdy here added the youtube links so you can clear the ears and listen...hehe! Enjoy! Read the rest of this article »

Patterns aren’t only for clothes!

8/04/2008

My good friend Sasha sent me this in an email, with the subject Alia Chaise. The email went like this:
I got this email from crate and barrel and this chaise made me think of you - "it's a conversation piece"!

Well Sasha was right! It was such a coincidence that I checked my other email account this evening...especially since I was getting ready for my Pattern Tuesday! Even though it isn't an item of clothing, it sure is an item worth posting. I love the pattern (the flowers are so my style), but unfortunately I don't have a house just yet to put it in:) But once I do, I'll get it (if it's still available in 2011) and then Sasha and I can have tea and chat about this "conversation piece" hahaha! Thanks Sasha!!!

I let go of the ‘i’ and brought in the pro!

2/04/2008

So, I treated myself to a macbook pro over the weekend! Yay! I am really excited! I had an ibook before, and at first I was all excited about my new laptop...but then I realized (while looking at my ibook last night), that I kinda miss my small compact ibook:( I haven't got used to the size of this one yet...or the its silver body, but I guess I will....soon.

If you're my friend, you know how bad I am with technology. I am on my 3rd ipod since 2004, I have to change my cell phone almost every year because I drop them so often, and I kicked my ibook off my bed one time when I was sleeping (I almost cried), and ants attacked it when I was in Jamaica one day (it was pretty bad). But last year, I really decided to start taking care of my stuff. I always did (kinda) but now things stay in their cases...nothing is by my feet in my bed....and no more eating around the laptop. And I don't drive in NY so my phone doesn't have to be in my lap where I forget about it!!!

So due to me having photoshop that works now, I'm thinking next week will be Alia's Summer Week, where I'll put up special posts about shopping for summer stuff....because we all know Spring/Summer is Alia's most favorite time of the year!!!! So be prepared cause photoshop WILL be put to use!!!

First Holly from decor8 did it, then Kylie from Bandelle inspired me to just do it! I'm not allowed to shop till May, but I have seen so many things while doing "research" for my blog, and so I created my wishlist. Read the rest of this article »

**Smile! I’m dreaming of Jamaica**

29/02/2008

jamaica

This is a random post...not my usual, but it has been a pretty rough week. There are a few periods in time when I get pretty homesick. It usually kicks in when things aren't going the way I want them to, or if I just visited home, or when my family comes to visit me. I spoke to my close friend Tobs today, and she told me she was looking online at real estate in Jamaica. So, I went and did my own search to uplift my spirits and I found this beautiful home on Treasure Beach, which is exactly where I need to be right now. I think it's being sold for about U$350,000 and that is what you pay for a cubicle here in NY. Right? But this house, no matter the cost, is so gorgeous, I just had to share. My favorite part is the master bedroom with floor to ceiling kinda windows!! And it has a private beach which makes it a big plus in my books.

So, maybe I feel homesick today, but dreaming of being on that bed, and waking up at sunrise, and falling asleep at sunset, with the ocean's waves crashing in the background, and the windows wide open…makes me smile.:) I hope it brightens your day! Enjoy!

*Check out the house here.

bottle poppin’

22/02/2008

bottles

I couldn't believe that cleaning my kitchen last night would make me so inspired to do my own DIY project. These blogs I read, really have me feeling creative. So, this is how my project came along at about 8pm last night. I was washing my dishes, and I said to myself, this kitchen is a mess. So I swept the floor, scrubbed my oven/stove, took out the garbage and my recycling, cleaned the counter and table top, and tidied my cupboards! Now, when my family visits, they always buy wine (I still have 3 unopened bottles just chilling since Christmas)! But, there were about 4 large wine bottles that I kept so I could paint them, and use them for decoration around my apartment. Now, keep in mind that these bottles have been sitting here since probably last summer, and every time I saw them on my counter I got annoyed. So I moved them to my shelf, then I moved them to the floor so I would have more space for my baking stuff. Bad idea. I would knock into them, they'd fall, make noise and that equaled me getting even more annoyed!

Now you're probably wondering why I haven't painted on them yet, especially since I would get so aggravated with them just sitting there. The reason is, I used to paint a lot in College, but then it was put on hold when I moved, and I just never got back into it until recently. And that's when I realized, if you don't do it at least 5 times a year, then you'll be horrible when you get back into it. I honestly felt like I was teaching myself how to paint all over again. So, I said to myself I'll continue to practice then paint the bottles.

Soo, the bottles bothered me so much last night, I just thought to myself, why not cover them with fabric for now??? So I did that. I had no glue so it took a while to figure out how I'll make it stay in place. So I just wrapped the bottles, then put some wire on the top. I was so proud of myself. And the cool thing about it is, I can unwrap it when I'm ready and switch the fabric if I choose to, or just paint it like I had planned to. And the best part is, they are no longer getting in my way and looking like garbage laying around! I made them into pretty little decorative pieces for my hallway! Yay!
